Stored in a wall-mounted case or pouch for easy access, they are effective for extinguishing cooking fires (especially grease fires), small laboratory fires, or fires involving flammable liquids. Blankets are deployed by releasing them from their container and carefully placing them over the flames, depriving the fire of oxygen and extinguishing it. They can also be used to wrap around a person whose clothing has caught fire.
